Why are the Q7s so hard to come by?
I understand how supply and demand works but cmon. i hardly ever see Q7s when driving around (and i have been looking) but i see tons of X5s, MB MLs, MDXs, etc... even Land Rover seems to have a larger market share. normally when a car maker sees a demand like there appears to be for the Qs they would make too many one year just to see how many they really could sell. or maybe they did that years ago and i missed it?
anyway i ordered a 2011 Q7 without actually test driving one because no dealers near me in NJ had one in stock. i actually ordered a S-line 2011 but the closest i came was somebody who had a premium plus model so he let me and the wife take it for a spin....very nice. the place where i ordered had to do his MMI demonstration in an A6...lol
i felt confident even before the test drive though because it seems to me that when buying a SUV in this price range there isnt really much to choose from. i had an X5 and hated the I-drive, dont like MBs and the Cayenne is a quick little thing thats big on price and not on room
anyway every dealer in my area told me i would have to wait until May to get my Q7 so while i wait i will just hang with you lucky fellers for a while and hang a new car scented air freshner on my PC monitor

And Audi is still reeling from the effects of making the decsion to scale back production back with the financial crisis of 2008.
That was bad advise as the suppliers cut back on materials. But you can't just turn the facuet back on and it takes time to ramp up.
Audi didn't skip a beat and people kept buying them in record numbers, even though the market was bad and other brands were slowing down. Sales have skyrocket and there market share has almost doubled in recent years.
I guess that is a good problem to have, and it will keep the resale on Q7's and the like models very high.
And there's the fact that U.S. customers pay the least amount for cars than anybody does have a big impact.
A $60,000 Q7 in U.S. dollars can be sold for 25-45% more in other countries. Audi can make far more money by keeping the higher end cars in the U.K, Germany, China and other parts of the world.
Also.. Audi can make a TON more money selling the cars in Europe... just go to the Audi germany website and price one out in Euros and then do the conversion to US$.. you will be amazed out how good of a deal we get here.
There is only 1 Audi dealership in the state of New Mexico, and I have the only '11 gas powered Q they received. All the rest have been TDI, and they had 3 of them on the lot the last time I was there.

they have some options there that i didnt see when building mine , which was expected i guess but i also noticed that a lot of things are packaged differently or not at all meaning you have to choose as options many things that are either standard or are included in a US S-line (even A/C ) i was really careful to only get stuff i got on mine
a base gas S-line is 80K US and a TDI S-line is 86K US and thats before you add crazy stuff like air conditioning and a moonroof. the finished product was about 62.5K GBP.....which is more than 100K USD.
i didnt pay MSRP so the price would be lower but thats still a hefty nut...."taxes and duties" notwithstanding

and was suprised to say the least.
it works out about the same price in £££ as in $$$
so you in the USA are getting a good deal, and cheaper petrol too!!
not sure what you pay for road tax though?
thats why i would never buy from new.
