Default Q7 Virginia Property Tax

I recently moved to VA & bought my Q7. Is this the property tax I'd have to pay each year?

I know in NC they charge u like 1% on the appraised vehicle price, every year. Even on leases. My guess is you will be charged every year, but that number will be less and less every year.

From a quick Google search, perhaps this will help: "Effective July 1, 2016, unless exempted under Va. Code § 58.1-2402, Virginia levies a 4.15% Motor Vehicle Sales and Use (SUT) Tax based on the vehicle's gross sales price or $75, whichever is greater. An additional $64 fee applies to electric vehicles, excluding mopeds.Jul 1, 2016"

I think the tax rate under the first 20,000 is reduced to a % of this valuation and the sales tax you pay on a new car is only 2.5% compared to 6%. Have owned and lived in Del, Md and VA and Virginia is by far most expensive for new luxury cars. Md is 6% sales tax but credits trade and reg is $200~annually. Sorry I got sticker shock on an A4 prestige years bag but was not as bad as I thought because about 75-80% of first 20,000 was waived to make tax less regressive...

I just paid mine for a 2018 q7 prestige in Fairfax County, Virginia, and it was about 2,000. My 2012 q5 prestige was about 400. I do believe it’s different by county as it was higher when we lived in Alexandria.

Be thankful you live in Virginia. Registration total for this year's new Q7s for me was $3,752 in the Free State of Nebraska (Motto: We Tax the Air). Each. And likely to be near that next year. Every. Single. Year.

Doc, $300/mo to register the vehicle? I thought these fees were only in Europe. Do they also charge on leases too?
Makes me want to stop complaining about how expensive NY is.. We pay $5/month to register ours. Do you guys not have income tax in those states? Maybe that's how they get you?

In Georgia there is a one time 7% tax paid on any new/used vehicle purchase, renewing registration costs $20 a year.

NY sales tax is pretty bad @ 8.875% of the sales price. Good news is after that you're done for as long as you own vehicle.

I also lived in NC and there it was 3% of the sales price, up front when purchasing car, but then they charge you 1% every year on the "appraised value" of the car. Not too bad if you own your cars for 3-4 years or less.

Here in TX, it's 6.25% of the sales price and you're done. Cars do not fall under the "property tax" here, like in NC and many other states.

So as you can see, each state is pretty different. Some are more messed up than others.

The nebraska thing is crazy though idk how true. online it says it's only 5.5% of the sales price, one time.
