Default Rant: So, Colorado wants to raise fuel taxes and license fees.........

One of the reasons is that they need to money to pay for:

A. Better Roads
B. DMV offices and staffing

Now here's something I find interesting, under Gov. Owens, we always heard that we were a technology state, of the most advanced tech states. So why, oh why can't we put this tech. knowledge to work? Maybe we're lazy?, maybe we've been lied to? Maybe they just want more money?

My boss hired a new driver on Friday, the guy has been here in Colorado 4 months, has a current Colo. CDL, brought in his current MVR with him, but previously he was licensed in Arkansas. So our insurance company said they needed a copy of his Arkansas MVR (I guess if the license change has been less than 3yrs they need this), while there in the office he was able to get a copy of his MVR from a state of Arkansas DMV website. Wouldn't it be great if we could do that.

I also find it interesting that some states let you renew DL's and license plates via the web, and get a new sticker in the mail. Why can't we do this? Too simple, too techie, too advanced?

Default You can renew boat registration and private vehicle plates via the web.

The vehicle sticker renewal just started this year IIRC and is available to you if you don't need emissions (my diesel pickup) or passed a roadside sniff.

Colorado DL (can't say for CDL) is good for 10 years, how long is the AK license good for until renewal?

I'd tend to agree that higher fuel and tag prices suck, but there are worse places to live and work than Colorado. Therefore, I might suggest that since you seem to find this state so anti-trucker, etc., you consider moving to the fine state of AK or (insert crummy state here) where you'll be more content.

Cheers!

Default I just find some of the recent BS crappy..........

I find it disturbing that the last time I went for a copy of my MVR, I had to stand in line for 2 hrs to get it, and they can't figure out a way to make this stuff go faster. As far as the plates go, yeah I tried to renew mine on the web, no emissions required this year, but it kicked me out because of my 3 renewals (2 cars and a trailer), the trailer is not eligible (no reason given) for online renewal. But what about DL's, they are currently good for 5 yrs, how about multi year plates instead of annual plates. Better yet, let us renew the plates online and only send out a new paper registration, no stickers, it just updates in in the computer. There are a couple of states that I have noticed don't use any type of renewal sticker on their plates.

They want to raise general taxes, yet the Gov. just gave all state employees an extra paid day off for '07, roughly $4,000,000 in lost revenue. Ritter is planning to ask for a tax increase next year, they don't know what they will spend the money on.

I got an interesting email from CMCA(Colorado Motor Carriers Assoc.) the other day about some things related to the chain law and the improvements. Though not for public dissemination, but it's really slap in the face to truckers, and is actually resulting in a lawsuit against the state and possibly Summit Co.

FWIW, AK is Alaska, AR is Arkansas, but I would prefer to move to Alaska.
