Default engine scope

Did anyone actually pay to scope the engine at an audi dealer for carbon...If so, how much? I have no CEL codes, but at a cold start it sounds really bad (like the car is gasping for air)for a minute or two (may have nothing to do with carbon???)

The car simply does not feel amazing after 5500 rpm...

It could be the vacuum lines if you are not getting the surge after 5.5K. As for a scope, I told my dealer to perform a scope and I would cover it if they did not find anything. Of course they did and was covered by AoA along with a full IM/ valve cleaning.

By saying I would pay for it if I was wrong and no carbon was found..... I was right though. I also have a good relationship with my dealer, we lease(as a company) a half dozen cars a years from them. They tend to bend a little more than usual with us.

Out of curosity, were you present at the time of the scoping...i just don't trust my dealer to charge me and say that it is fine...still curious to know if they manually cleaned the manifold and how long did it take them to do???

Took 3 days of soaking and manually scrubbing. Got her back on the 4th day. I was NOT present when they performed the scope, but do trust them so that part is up to you. I did ask them to take pics and I stopped by to take a peak on the 2nd day.

just spoke to the dealer and they said that if i pay for the scope and they find carbon, they can't fix it under warranty becuase there are no codes on the car. They will not recognize the power loss...any suggestions? will definitely contact another dealer...i even contacted AOA and they are "looking into it"

I spoke to my dealer as well. I thought this idea about offering to pay for the scope was brilliant. They told me beside the need for codes, even if they find something, Audi's procedures require them to try using a fuel additive first (2 cans) and then see if the problem goes away. Only then can they get approval for a physical clean out.
