Default depends how you drive.

it could be many as 4, or as little as zero.

Default There's a reserve of approx 2.5 gals from E

however, I wouldn't go by the trip computer, but rather the fuel gauge. All cars have a reserve beyond empty reading.

Sounds like a Seinfeld episode I remember seeing once.

How many gal does it take to fill the tank that that level? Subtract that from tank capacity...

Default Agreed. Drive like granny with the level showing low, then romp on it, and you'll be

on the side of the road faster than you thought.

Besides, it's really really bad to run a car out of gas. Fuel pumps don't have the cooling medium of fuel around them, and when injector needles snap closed w/o the cushion of fluid being cut off, they make hard contact, which damages them.

Default The gauge itself is way more accurate than miles left for sure...I just ran my RS6

for example to 0 as usual but really low on the actual gauge (well past red ticks) and put in a little over 4 gallons ($20.00 @ 4.67)...it read 5 miles afterwards and was in the middle of the red hashes...so i think it is closer to a 4 gal extra in my car anyway. Was deep on my previous Audi's also.

Default I wouldn't count on 4 in a 17 gallon tank

that's approx 1/4, and the reserve is never 1/4. Was it actually at E?

Default Well using my RS6 as a bad example, I have a ~21 gal tank. When i do a normal fill up at 0...I

put in upper 18s to 19 gallons so at least 3 + in my case for reserve when it reads near 0 or is at the beginning to middle of the red hashes. Ignore me, not sure why i am posting about my car other than to say ignore the trip computer read out as its based on your driving completely and you cabn park it saying you have 15 or 20 left but then get back in a few hours later and have 0. I just watch the actual gauge was my only point.

Haven't actually filled up a full tank in months due to the $75 credit card cut off.

On a side note I know its 2 gallons in a BMW 328 as i ran a loaner car to out of gas as i pulled up to a pump guessing at mileage and mpg past 0 and ran out as i pulled up to the pump.
