Default Rough engine at...

Anybody notice a miss or a skip in the engine between 2000 and 3000 RPM? More specifically at around 2200 to 2400. Appears to happen most often when engine is not completly at operating temperature but can happen at any time. It is more noticeable when passing through this RPM range under mild to moderate acceleration.

Nope.. I do however notice the broad torque curve, seemless power, and sheer thrust ;P

Default Check with Evil Buddha, he had a similar problem

This is not normal. He complained of a dead spot in that range, and turned out that he would get misfires.

Default Interesting, I've noticed a pause or dead spot...

...right around 3000 RPM, usually when not warmed up. It's not rough or jarring, but it almost feels as if the power drops momentarily. I've got a service appointment scheduled this week to take a look. Are misfires recorded by the ECU?

Default Misfires are recorded.

If you scan engine controller 1 and 2 they should be recorded.

Default I have about a 150rpm dip in power in that range; the misfires that........

set off my engine light twice are a different issue. The dip seemed to go away after they swapped the coils but it is back now. I thought it might be a software issue but they say I have the latest greatest version. Sales rep said he thought it might be something to do with a duel speed cam as it changes speed? I have no clue what he is talking about or maybe I just remember his explanation incorrectly. The dealer and AOA really don't know what is causing it. Anyone with this problem really should document it with their dealer as AOA is telling my dealer they have no one else with this issue.

Default That is exactly what I have noticed...

I have a service appointment coming up. I will document as best a I can and see what they have to say. No engine lights in my situation just the pause of dead spot around 2200 to 2400 RPM.

My dead spot seems to float somewhere between 2 and 3K. Let me know what you find out.

Default Re: Rough engine at...(Edited)

Possibly the EVAP purge valve.

My S4 would exhibit a similar skip (edit: changed from stutter) under moderate acceleration around 2500 rpm when in 2nd gear. I did not worry about this too much but recently the car exhibited some other odd behaviour; intermittent throttle hang and non-responsive throttle on rev-match.

Intermittent throttle hang
--------------------------
On acceleration the rpms would not drop when going up through the box. Example: 3000 rpm in 3rd, press in clutch, engage 4th, letting out clutch, rpm still 3000, wait, wait, wait, rpm drop - or if clutch is released fully and quickly the drops instantly...either way it is a PITA.

Non-responsive throttle
-----------------------
Whenever this occurred it was also not possible to rev match on down shift. I would blip the throttle on downshift but no reaction from the throttle. When this starts (e.g. 80 km/h) I can keep the clutch depressed and press on the throttle multiple times and get little or no response.

I had the dealership look at a number of issues one of them being the above, it is now gone (second visit for this problem). With the above problem fixed I no longer have the stutter problem. The only obvious fix on the invoice is the EVAP purge valve.
