Default Audi of America Oil Consumption problem... Oil Min light comes on after 800-1000 miles. They say..

I have a bit of an issue. My 2004 Audi S4 has been at the dealership for a total of 87 days over the last 6 months. My car has an issue where the oil min light comes on after 800-1000 miles. Audi of America has put my car on a lift and ran it until the light comes on. They found that after the car is 1.5 quarts low, the light will come on. So they ran a few tests buy running the car on the LIFT and state that the car is burning oil within an acceptable range (supposedly it is .9 quarts per mile). I've done many long road tests with my dealership (1000 mile intervals) and each time my light comes on between 800-1000 miles which means it's 1.5 quarts low after leaving the dealership with oil on the dipstick above the top plastic part. The manual says not to go above that line but they always fill it above that point. If my light is coming on after 800-1000 miles, then it means I'm burning more than 1 quart per 1000 miles. I am starting to become fed up with Audi of America and about to take legal action against them. I believe that they do anything to not warranty your car and prove that you're wrong. I've been patient but I can't have my light coming on every 800 miles. On average to do this test, I drove 800 miles round trip (400 miles to destination and 400 back). For anyone else on this board, when you drive long distances, does your light come on at 800-1000 miles or is mine abnormal?

Default I just add oil as needed although yours certainly needs it more often

Even if it's a quart every 800 miles that's 4 tanks of gas - 4 opportunities to add oil pretty easily.

Default My car is under warranty. Despite the fact that I could add at every gas stop, Audi should warranty

the vehicle. The rule is 1 quart per 1000 miles. My car clearly burns 1.5 quarts in the range of 800-1000 miles. 87 days in the shop for the last 6 months for various problems. Isn't that a bit rediculous? The car is under warranty now, what happens when it's not? I ask this question because I'm not sure if I should trade the car in and get another S4 or if I should purchase a different car other than the S4. If all S4's have lights go on after 800-1000 miles, I'll go with another brand. If my case is highly abnormal, I may give the S4 another try. I appreciate all the help I get from this board.

Default I've never seen the oil light come on. 87 days in the shop in 6 months?

Lemon Law! I think they ought to buy you out and get you a new one.

Dealer says I don't qualify and I'm out of lemon law period. I'm thinking of taking legal action.

Default I was using 2 ltrs per 1000Km. Car is at the dealer. Finally getting new shortblock.

They did compression tests and discovered some cyls where low. Took engine apart and measured cyl bores and found them out of spec. So I get a new engine sans heads. Took a while to convince them of the problem but its finally getting sorted.
