i got 2 gouges in my sidewall...!!!

Tire damage from a car carrier truck...?

I just took delievry of my Audi S4 yesterday and just noticed an hour ago, that i have 2 gouges in my left front tire's sidewall... it looks as though something dug into the sidewall, and then was pulled down and away...

I called an left a message for my salesguy telling him the problem, and am thinking that they should have caught this in the PDI, although it is hard to see unless you get right down on the tire, because the pieces that are gouged out push right back into place...

Does anyone know how they fasten the cars to a carrier when they come in...? could this have been caused by a strap or something...?

no input on this...

there's no way this could have happened away from the dealer... heck, i only had it home for one night, and in 6 years of living here, NOONE has bothered any of my cars...

So i'm making the assumption this was done at or before it hit the dealer...

I can TOTALLY see how they missed it during the PDI, because whoever did the PDI did not even realize that my radio was NO GOOD...! My sales guy found out for me, and they had to swap radios with another car on the lot the morning i took delivery...

Could have been knicked in shipping, at port, or getting off the truck.

Dont' know what it looks like, so I can't be certain what happened.

that's what i'm thinking...

i don't have a pic at the moment, but i'll try to explain it...

imagine taking a ice cream scoop and digging into some ice cream... that is what this looks like, but it didn't tear completely off... the bottom part of the rubber is still connected and the part that is peeled away can be pushed back into place and look as though there was nothing wrong with it...

if you just glanced at the tire, you'd never notice it... but i was down reading the sidewall info this evening, and BOOM, there it was... i was HOT, to say the least... again, there is NO WHEEL DAMAGE, only the sidewall...

Well, that's not good. Sidewall damage is the worst.

I would definitely go back to the dealer and demand that they give you a new tire. Make sure that none of the other tires are knicked.

And I would call them ASAP in the morning, so they can't blame it on you.

I know exactly what you mean. They most likely cut it on some metal. The sidewall is the worst place for damage like this. And it cannot be repaired. (Just like if you get a nail in the sidewall, the tire has to be replaced, no patch)

i called my sales rep immediatley...

and left a message for him last night when i found the damage...

i think they are a stand-up dealer and will replace the tire for me...

i'm waiting on his phone call this morning...

They are going to replace the tire...

so i go out today and clean the wheels and tires cause we've had all this rain the last 2 days and what do i find...?

the other front tire has the same gouge only about 1/3 the size of the other one...

WTF...? I called and left another message, and an assuming they will replace that as well, but this has me pretty annoyed right now...

i guess as long as they replace them both, i'll be happy again...
