Default A quick note on retrofitting 46:60 diff

Sorry im posting this in its own thread, but I have been away from the internet for two weeks and have been reading back. I noticed a thread or two o0n retrofitting the 40:60 split diff. I dont think it is possible or worth it for the money. The main reason I say this is because i asked MTM about this exact thing about three weeks ago. They told me it pretty much cant be done. The reason being that it is not just mechanical. They said most of the electrical systems in the car are set for the diff type in the car when shipped. Meaning the ESP and ABS and whatever other systems would not understand what the car was doing with a different diff in the car.I dont know how true this is, but I tend to believe what they say. Also it makes sense that the car is programmed in many ways to react to a 50:50 diff and changing that might be a bad thing without also reprogramming. Can anyone else talk rationally on this topic? im justr repeating what i was told by a company who im sure would have been glad to take my money to do this swap for me.

Default Have you checked the Stasis website?

AFAIK, the electronics are concerned with spin and traction loss. Otherwise Quattro is a mechanical system. Jet Jockey/A4 Pilot has the Stasis diff in his A4 and he seems very pleased with it. MTM has a good reputation but as far as I can see on their site, they don't make a diff so I wouldn't expect them to be the last word on it.

Also for the low cost of $550+ your core, I'd take the Stasis over the 40/60

Default Re: good point..

I did not engineer the car so my answers are only speculation at best...however I will attempt to answer the question. Then I will upgrade and confirm or deny.

ESP monitors transverse-acceleration, longitudinal-acceleration, and yaw-rate using the ABS to keep the car going the intended direction. Our Quattro system CAN transfer up to 100 percent of available driving torque to the front or rear axles if required. Therefore our 50:50 diffs can change to 30:70, 10:90 or 0:100 and the car would still know what's going on. We are just putting in a diff that's biased to the rear still keeping the car within its normal operating parameters

Default What good is a core if you don't have another car to put it in?

Plus you get 20/80 power transfer with the stasis 4:1.

Default Nothing...... but if you need warranty work done or go to sell the car...... more inside --.

One question about the 20/80 slit with the Stasis.... isn't that too much? I only mean that in regards to quattro's usability in the winter...... One of the many reasons I choose the S4 over the M3 was that it was AWD and something I could drive all year round up here in the North East......

With that said.. I'd like to know how even the 40/60 split from Audi would affect that...... and certainly then how a 20/80 from the Stasis would........ I'm not being smart... would just really like to know.... Audi choose 40/60 for a reason and even still I wonder if that hurts the ability in the snow....

I honestly wouldn't know. IIRC the stasis unit doesn't look any different from OEM.

Stasis diff is totally different than Audi diff. The Stasis diff is 50:50.
