2012 DSG with NO sports mode?

Pull back on the shifter. It's not labeled "S", but it's there. At least it is on my 2010. I have full ADS and nav so have all individual modes. Regardless, pulling back on the shifter past "D" puts the transmission into Sport mode jut like the old Tiptronic.

?????? Shifter stops at "D", I have 2011 w/Sport diff and nav.

Interesting. 2010 w/ S-Tronic and sport diff (via full ADS). The gate isn't labeled with an 'S' but if I push the button and pull back past D then I end up n 'S' mode. I've also enabled gear indications via VAG-COM and can let the trans shift through S1 to S7 automatically. FWIW, this is regardless of the ADS mode. Auto, individual, comfort, or dynamic.

just tried this on a quick drive and mine does not flip to sport mode past D. in fact, there is very little movement of the shifter when in D and I try to pull back further. 2012 with ADS + SD. weird.

I will do this too. If I am hitting a off ramp or something, the car lulls down at 1K and then hesitates, so I will downshift with the paddle, pick the gear I want and go. You are then overriding the auto and will be in manual mode, so you need to upshift too. But if you get about 20 seconds without shifting, the car then goes back to auto mode. So you can kinda do a half auto half manual way of driving.

Here's a quick overview of S and M function for our S4's.
We all have Sport function. We all have Manual function.
Manual is selected by moving the shift lever from D to the right. From there you manually shift it by paddling or tapping the shift lever front(up) or back(down). It allows the driver to manually upshift or downshift within the ecu limits. Nothing more occurs within the system.
All our cars have "S" Sport function. Non-ads and non-sd cars have the S on the console. You simply pull back on the shifter (depress the button on the shifter handle). You can use the paddles any time you want. )
If you have ads or sd you select Dynamic, which activates the Sport function. Here to you can use the paddles anytime too.
It'll affect steering, throttle response and shift points on the sd cars and ads cars, with the suspension changed on the ads cars.
Read the manual to take full advantage of this excellent example of a German Sports Sedan. Never speculate. .02
