From what I can see in order to take full advantage of the pully you would need to get the ECU flashed... but I could be wrong... its part of the APR ECU Stage II flash

Cant do Pulley without doing APR stage 1 first or at least at the same time. YOu need the software with it. Since they will provide the upgraded software to existing customers for free with the purchase of the $500 pulley (plus you gotta pay for install or at least buy the kit but since you asking this question id say have it installed). YOu can do it as one single upgrade and APR may give you a discount but expect to pay around $1900-2100 for stage 1 plus stage 2(aka pulley and software) plus you have to have your ECY pulled and shipped to APR. This ECU isn't done at dealers anymore(although pulley can be obviously).

Intake on the other hand is between 350-500$ and can be done easily on your own and will provide no real noticeable seat of the pants power feel but will add some sound and help the car breath. YOu should also consider exhaust. Its in between the two as far as cost, performance gains, and ease of install. plus the S4 really sounds anemic.

He probably knows the pulley comes with/needs the ECU tune.

If you're considering doing things before the pulley, you may want to look at the coolant upgrades. A stock 3.0TFSI engine that has been running hard loses ~25hp vs a cool engine (1st run vs run 6, according to APR's data), adding a pulley will only make that worse.

so what you are saying is that unless i have tuned ECU stage 1, i can't install just the supercharger pully?
Also,i can't feel much of difference if i just tune cold air intake?

Yes, you will need to have the APR Stage I software with the pulley program to make any difference at all in performance. You can't just pop the pulley on there and call it a day.

As far as intakes go I think they are great as long as they are purchased as part of a complete plan to tune your car. If you are going to just do an intake you probably won't notice much unless you just want the sound produced by one, however if you do a full intake/exhaust/software down the road it will definitely reduce bottlenecks that will otherwise exist.

Bottom line, don't buy an intake and expect night and day results with an intake alone. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket and want to do something cheap, get the Alu-Kruez stabilizer and save the rest for when you want to look at performance mods on a bigger scale.

Ir depends on what your going for...speed, cornering/handling, sound, etc. Exhaust will sound nice and let the car wind up faster and give you some noticeable power. Intake as I mentioned will sound nice and let the car breath better but only power difference you will notice by it self is on the dyno. MOst bang for your buck is stage 1 and 2(pulley) software. If your gonna do both stages id suggest doing them at once to save install time and down time. Like I said it depends on what your going for. For me I want all of it so Im saving for now and I want to do it all at once so its the most noticeable. When I did a piece at a time on my last audi and VW's it wasn't as much fun as the one time I Dropped off car and went from stock to Revo Stage 2 software, 3"' TB , intake, short shift, VF engineering bushings. YOu gotta decide what your looking for. Either way It sounds like you will enjoy it

It makes no sense to install a pulley only. The stock supercharger already creates lots of boost that is not used. The ECU is programed to "blow off" "by-pass" quite a bit of the compressed air created by the supercharger already, what the "chipped" ECUs do, is allow more of the compressed air be rammed into the combustion chambers and not be "blowed off", hence more horse power and torque. A pulley only would do nothing at all, for the stock ECU would simple "blow-off or by-pass the extra air.
