Default do we have a speed limiter on this car?

I was looking at an open road event where there is no maximum speed:

http://www.sscc.us/event_description.aspx

I'm curious if I quality for the super sport category (160-180mph).

No limiter on my car with GIAC. Your car is limited to 250 km/h or 155 mph, therefore you don't qualify for the super sport category.

I'm sure a friendly vendor can fix that. I'm wondering if anyone has actually his the limiter. The redline is "7000" on this car but it's actually fuel cut at 7250. I wouldn't be surprised if this car was soft on the speed limit also.

Is it something you can edit in VAGCOM?

Found this post.

I can't believe it is really that simple. Can anyone confirm if this works on a 2012 S4?

I believe the reason for putting a limit on the top speed is the tire issue. If for example a car has a top speed of 190 mph, the car has to be equipped with tires that can handle that top speed. Tires that are rated for speeds in excess of 180 are quite expensive.

Factory tires are rated at 186.

IIRC there is a factory speed limiter on the car (150ish mph I think). A ECU flash/tune from any of the three companies should remove that (and increase the redline as well).

I don't think you can edit that in vag com.

That event looks awesome!

You have to be quick but you can hit 170 before the limiter notices

IMO, i wouldn't run this event unless you have a full roll cage and full complement of safety equipment in the car....
