How long does a factory order take to deliver?

Depending on various factors, i.e. specific dealer allocations, North American east or west coast, dealer distance from port, etc., typically 10-12 weeks. My dealer used a demo allocation for my order just before it was going to production so mine took 7 weeks to NE U.S.

Thanks. So with BMW it's usually that if you don't get your order in by late Sept/early Oct, you can't order until after January. Is it the same with Audi? I guess it depends on when each production line goes in and I want to time this so that I can be in a new car by late Nov/early Dec...

Mine took about 90 days...give or take a few days. Customs at Houston port then trucked to the dealer in the Rockies.
Dealer told me:
When the build order was accepted.
When the car was built and VIN.
When it got on the ship.
When it landed at port.
When it was delivered to the dealer.
When the 3M clear bra would be installed and when I could pick it up.
Very pleasant experience. No surprises.
Perhaps you could get a BMW in eight weeks...but then if you got a BMW it would look like a BMW (which does not work for me) and the AWD system is not as good as the Audi. Also, I could not get an AWD stick shift with a 400+ hp engine on the BMW. So the S4 was the best choice for me.

My experience was 6 months, but I am in Australia. They also batch some things up (probably matters like spray booth economics, etc.). Avant's for example are apparently done in batches (less relevant for NA).
