Default Intake

I'm interested in getting and installing a new air intake but am curious to have your input.

Years ago, I installed the Stratmosphere one in my B6 S4, so I can manage the mechanics of an installation, but I recall seeing in the forums that either the APR or Ingen one has/had fitment issues.

Does anyone know if those have those been resolved? Also, although I like the look of the APR one better, any thoughts on sound, performance, ease of installation versus the two? Anything else I should take into consideration? Like the APR has the air box and back pipe separately ... worth it?

Thanks much!

I can't speak to APR or Injen. Did you like your Strat intake? The designer of a Strat intake in the past is now at Roc-Euro and has designed an intake for the B8. The new intake is subtle under 3K rpm but really comes alive above that. The intakes are out of stock at the moment but John at Roc-Euro is getting the parts in to build up some more based on comments at Audizine. Here's a link if you want to check it out more:

I was pretty happy with the Stratmosphere intake on my B8. My only thought is that the Ingen, and moreso the APR, intakes look really nice. I mean, it's not like I'm looking at the engine all that much, but the Roc-Euro one looks ... "simple."

Is there any performance or sound benefit to spending the extra cash on the Ingen or even the APR one?

Thanks much again!

Intake power gains are negligible really. I did it more for throttle response. I went all APR and am really happy.

The Roc-Euro intake is the loudest though...

PT,

I like the look of the APR with the carbon fiber and all but what is stage 1 and stage 2? It appears that Stage 1 is the filter and pipe, and stage 2 the cover (for lack of a better word). That about right?

Seems like a big gap in price between that and the roc-euro.

I have no fitment issues with my APR intake. The only hard part of the install was getting the filter to fit onto the neck. I finally just set the filter on a table and pressed the neck into it.

Stage I is the filter and air box cover.
Stage II is the intake pipe.

Here is a good review which echo's my thoughts about the APR CAI

http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4b8/msgs/25236.phtml

The finish appears to be high quality carbon fiber. The fit on the other hand leaves a bit to be desired.

In short - if you want the carbon bling - get APR. If you don't care about the bling other, cheaper options, should be considered.

So does the APR still have fitment issues? I think for almost double the price of the competitors it should be absolutely perfect.

Other question is who has not only the better pricing, but great customer service should there be a problem?

I never had a fitment issue. I had one of the first few that arrived at Achtuning too. I'll echo helix139's point that getting the filter on took a bit of patience but that's about it.
