ipod help
You can verify that there is nothing wrong with the car by trying someone else's iPhone or iPod.
HOWEVER. Keep in mind, I think the biggest iPhone you can get is 32GB. You may not have 32GB of music, but apps, videos, photos, etc.. take up space on there as well.
And, lastly, as a bit of a tech nerd, I want to just bring your attention to this article: http://gizmodo.com/5729273/dont-buy-...rizon-iphone-4
The gist of it is that since Apple will likely roll out a new iPhone in June, buying last year's model now seems a bit silly. Depends a lot on your preferences, I think.
EDIT- in my Bimmer, which had Gen2 iDrive (the good one), my iPod worked flawlessly, but my iPhone wasn't getting quite enough power to charge, which caused it to either -not- charge, or to make noises every couple of seconds because it decided it was plugged in, then promptly forgot that fact and happily reminded me again 3 seconds later.
So, hit or miss.

Some cars just/also have a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, which you -can- use for that purpose pretty easily. Not sure if the S4 has it.
Also, I kept my phone in the center console of my bimmer, and it did just fine.
