Default ipod help

I just took delivery of my new S4 and the MMI doesn't see my Ipod. I tried resetting both the MMI and the Ipod still no luck. Any ideas?

I had this same issue when I bought my S4. I had to reload the software (and songs) on my iPod. It then worked without an issue.

You can verify that there is nothing wrong with the car by trying someone else's iPhone or iPod.

Only because it's the sort of thing I'd do, is the connector cable plugged in properly?

Only sort of sideways connected to the topic - can you attach an iphone to the ipod connector to listen to music? They have the same type of port, don't they? (Android guy here but due for an upgrade and with Verizon getting the iphone...)

You may need a new connector. I just picked up my S4 yesterday and had the same exact problem. It was a CPO, and they had the wrong Ipod connector in there. My sales guy said something about an update to the MMI or something that made the previous connector obsolete. He gave me the correct one free of charge.

I can't say FOR SURE, but in most systems I've seen, iPods/iPhones work about the same.

HOWEVER. Keep in mind, I think the biggest iPhone you can get is 32GB. You may not have 32GB of music, but apps, videos, photos, etc.. take up space on there as well.

And, lastly, as a bit of a tech nerd, I want to just bring your attention to this article: http://gizmodo.com/5729273/dont-buy-...rizon-iphone-4

The gist of it is that since Apple will likely roll out a new iPhone in June, buying last year's model now seems a bit silly. Depends a lot on your preferences, I think.

EDIT- in my Bimmer, which had Gen2 iDrive (the good one), my iPod worked flawlessly, but my iPhone wasn't getting quite enough power to charge, which caused it to either -not- charge, or to make noises every couple of seconds because it decided it was plugged in, then promptly forgot that fact and happily reminded me again 3 seconds later.

So, hit or miss.

Thanks, excelsior. what I was particularly interested in was streaming the internet through the phone - I already have an ipod with tons of music on it but I have a couple of nternet radio stations (my fave: radioparadise.com) that I would love to listen to while driving. Leqving aside the issue of getting reception in the glove box (you'd have to get some sort of extension cord I guess), I just wonder whether it's technically feasible. Also thanks for the heads-up on the upcoming new iphone, I'll certainly wait for that.

I've tried similar things (like Pandora) with my iPhone, and the problem is that most systems that connect through the 30-pin dock connector actually take control of the device. What's more, they act as a simple data connection that allows the car's systems to access and play the music on the device, so any audio coming out of the device itself isn't played.

Some cars just/also have a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, which you -can- use for that purpose pretty easily. Not sure if the S4 has it.

Also, I kept my phone in the center console of my bimmer, and it did just fine.

I don't think it does but I wish it did. At home I have a whole-house stereo with a Sonos system so I can listen to stuff from itunes and thte internet. It's a pain and constantly needs to be fiddled with for some reason. Lately I just plug my Droid into the stereo via this headphone jack-to-RCA splitter cable that I have and it works like a champ. The cord's about 12' long so I can still use it as a phone without unplugging it. And there's a vacant plug right there so I can charge the phone at the same time if I need to.I wish I had saved the money on the Sonos system now!
