Default Let's talk about heat soak.

Those of you who took delivery of your S4s last summer and live where it gets fairly warm, how badly did the S4 get heat soaked? Was the power loss noticable? Could you tell that the car started to pull back on timing? It's a fact of life in every supercharged/turbo car I've ever driven, just wondering how dramatic it is in the S4.

Haven't driven the car in any 100 degree days yet, but the performance seems to be about the same between 20 degree days and 80 degree days. This is compared to my turbo Legacy or 135 where cold days felt like I was running race gas. I think the S4 is pretty aggressively intercooled, and doesn't have the intake sitting on top of a turbo like the 1.8t or 2.0t.

Good to hear. Sadly I'll be getting mine in June which is right when our temps start to get in the mid to upper 90s.

It's already warming up here. I haven't noticed anything. Of course I'm coming from a Volvo S60R, where the intercooler is sandwhiched between the radiator and a/c condensor. Actually, I had a FMIC installed, which helped a lot, but it was still really noticeable. Not so on the Audi.

Does the car care about humidity?

I plan on taking my car out to Buttonwillow on a hot day in California desert. Last time it was 105 degrees, which was enough to overheat my 325i if I didn't make judicious use of 4th gear. It would overheat if I mostly stayed at the top of 3rd.

The 335i turbo cars couldn't go four laps without shutting down. My car just reduced power, it didn't actually limp.

I expect the S4 to not overheat.

I have not noticed any difference between 16 and 90 degrees. The S4 is a air/water intercooler which is more consistant than air/air. I noticed a big drop in power in my A4 when it got hot outside. Also, high humidity helped the A4. Water vapor helps reduce the temp rise during compression, if I remember correctly from my compressor/turbine cources.

Yes, though in my experience there isn't as big of an impact as altitude or ambient temp. But water in the air will still effect oxygen density.

Hopefully the S4 Supercharger intercooler system works better than the Mercedes C32 Supercharger intercooler system, which has a lot of heat soak. When it's cold, the Renntech MB C32 is exciting, when it's hot is just ok.

By the way for the C32, here was one of the solutions; a Performance Heat Exchanger.

Oh and for heat soak on the BMW 135/335, there is this;
