They'd rather be out a few bucks and have an S4 on the lot than deal with someone complaining about them left and right. On the other hand, if you spec your car in an odd way, and they think it would be hard to move, you're probably out the $1000. Getting the deposit back depends on your dealer, so be careful.

We agreed to a price relative to invoice, I knew roughly what that would be but even that isn't confirmed until the car arrives.
After 6 months and 10,000 miles, I can say I have no regrets. Even with deeper pockets I can't think of a sedan I'd rather have as a daily driver than the S4.
