If you were to put down about half the price of the car, does anyone know what kind of leverage I would get in ordering the S4?....if there any. I saw post where people get 1000 or less over invoice and it seems that most of them are cars that are already on the lot or car of someone who cancel the order. I'm not in a hurry to get the S4 but would want to get it before the design changes. Some car looks great at first then just so so after a while but definitely not the 2010-2012 S4 in my opinion. Thanks in advance for any input.

I don't think it matters how much you put down. A deposit is enough to get your order going, and after that, the dealer gets the price of the car from the financing organization. More money down might help you get financing, but that's about it.

Yep it won't matter, I put down $1k and ordered exactly what I wanted and got the next availible slot in the factory order line for that dealership. 103 days later my baby was delivered.

Well I had a trade in and financed some, I didn't put a ton down, the 1K will secure the order - in fact they will not even discuss finance till the car arrives, since interst rates, lease rates, trade in values, incentive can all change by the time the car arrives.

Really? So does that meant that you could still cancel your order after the car gets here if it didn't work out .....say if the interest rates, lease rates, etc... is higher than expected? That would be a better buy for the next Joe that's looking for the same options in the S4. Yes, no?

I just placed my order last Sat and I had most of those same questions.

On paper, if the car comes in and you don't complete the purchase, you lose your deposit. My salesman assured me that in practice they'd usually be happy to refund your deposit provided they expect to be able to sell the car on the lot. They'd rather be out a few bucks and have an S4 on the lot than deal with someone complaining about them left and right. On the other hand, if you spec your car in an odd way, and they think it would be hard to move, you're probably out the $1000. Getting the deposit back depends on your dealer, so be careful.

Exactly. These cars are selling like hotcakes, and mine said I could walk if I didn't like it when it arrived. The only time my dealer required a higher deposit and would not refund it is if you did a true special order with a crazy paint color or combination of Audi Exclusive packages they thought they couldn't sell. The same dealer ordered an Imola for the showroom and it ended up sitting for 3 months till they sold it to DrVolkl on the boards here for a smoking deal - so rare/loud colors that tend not to move as easily are usually something they will not refund over.

After waiting 3-4 months, I highly doubt many walk away after the car arrives, especially over hundreds of dollars on a $50k+ purchase. The waiting gets pretty tough...

We agreed to a price relative to invoice, I knew roughly what that would be but even that isn't confirmed until the car arrives.

After 6 months and 10,000 miles, I can say I have no regrets. Even with deeper pockets I can't think of a sedan I'd rather have as a daily driver than the S4.
