Default So are there any intake valve carbon buildup problems?

Or does the pressurized intake finally take care of the DI intake valve carbon deposits?

I know there were some reports of it on the 2.0T, but I figure the supercharged 3.0 is different.

Anyone have any problems yet?

It seems to my non-expert mind that forced induction wouldn't make the problem go away.

FI helps the problem, but won't make it go away. Audi redesigned the oil recovery system in since the RS4 to be more aggressive, and the EGR pumps the vapors into the SC to be compressed, not to mention having to make it's way through the vanes, removing a significant part of the larger particulates. After talking to a few Audi techs who have replaced thermostats in B8 S4's with over 15K miles, those who looked down past the flaps at the intakes said they looked just fine, so here's hoping it's not an issue anymore.

Those with issues in the 2.0T are almost always people with very short commutes who baby the car. It's important to get the engien up to temp for a few minutes and to do the occasional longer road trip in addition to some spirited driving to keep the engine healthy.

Not forced induction per se but the fact that valve overlap is minimized in a FI engine. Valve overlap is needed in a high rpm NA engine to assist with scavenging and is widely believed to be the reason RS4s suffer visits from the carbon lady in greater numbers than other lower output NA engines. Carbon build up on direct injected engines is a highly complex issue that involves engine design, driving style, oil recovery system design, oil type, engine temps and perhaps even fuel.
