2012 S4 Prestige MMI Problems? Anyone else?
Hi,
I have had two MMI malfunctions in the last two weeks. The first one happened when I restarted the car about 10 minutes after coming home. The MMI came on at full volume from the rear drivers side speakers only. No matter what source I selected, it did the same thing. An MMI reset did not help. Waiting more than 20 minutes and restarting seemed to clear the problem.
Today, I started the car after it sat for about 5 minutes (school drop off) and the MMI screen was blank. Pressing several buttons did not bring it back. An MMI reset did bring it back this time.
For my first Audi experience, this is VERY disappointing quality control. I notified Audi support through their web site and expect to hear from them soon. They responded about the volume problem fairly quickly.
Anyone else have these problems?

I've never had a problem with my MMI and I have my car for a year and a half. My guess is that you just have a malfunctioning unit.
Now my S-Tronic misfunctioned after about a year (though the only indication there was a problem was on the front display), but since it was replaced, I've had no problems.

The exact same thing happened to my 2011 A4 Avant. To get the stereo back to normal took a couple of days. When the screens went blank in my car, they went blank white and not black. I told the dealer and they had no explanation. Neither problem happened again but I traded the car shortly thereafter.
I don't think it is a serious issue. I have not had this happen in the S4 after 5,000 miles. Hopefully that was it. I would be curious to hear what your dealer has to say about it.

If you don't have an occasional issue with the MMI, that is the abnormality.
There's an Operating System under all that pretty GUI, and just like personal/server computers, there is bound to be the occasional hiccup.
I've had the sat radio stay stuck on a channel, a random noise generated through the speakers, and the most recent, scratchy wonky playback from the iPod.
Never thought I'd be driving a car with a more complex OS than my home computer

I understand there is essentially a PC in the car. I thought the OS was QNX, which is supposed to be very reliable. Of course, RIM acquired QNX recently so that may not bode well for updates
I wouldn't mind the occasional hiccup if updates were free. Alas, they are not.

I have a 2010 that had similar problems, had no start up screen, no real time traffic, missing sirius channels, wrong streets on navigation, certain buttons on MMI not working. Had to have mine replaced.
Talk to the service manager directly. We had to wait until one of the regional reps showed up for them to fix it.
