Default Trying to decide between AWE & Milltek Exhaust

I am deciding between resonated version of AWE and Milltek for my 2011 DSG S4. So far I've only heard them online so I can't really tell the difference. What I am looking for is slightly louder sound during everyday driving to let me know the engine is actually on, and a loud wail when I go full throttle. I most definitely do not want to sound Fast & Furious when I am just commuting to work. But when I step on it, I want people around me to be confused "Is that sound coming out of THAT small European luxury sedan?" The AWE is $700 cheaper, when all the taxes and shipping are calculated. Not an insignificant amount of change, it can go to my ECU flashing fund. So my question is, is the Milltek worth $700 more than the AWE in sound?

From what I hear and alot of research posts that I have done personally. Milltek is the way to go. I cancelled my order on AWE as a 4-6 week lead time was given and also I heard from another member of a site (and I trust him) that after 9 months or so He is having fitment issues on the AWE. Milltek is a world reknowned product and another member who has owned a couple of highly modded Audis said after always testing multiple exhausts he ends up with Milltek everytime. And this member is definetely someone to trust. I am going with Milltek even tho the expense is higher. I figure do it right the first time

Are the performance improvements any different between Milltek, AWE, APR? I know exhaust is somewhat negligible (on order of 10-15hp) but besides the sound between the three, are the gains any different?

Muray,

Thanks for considering the AWE Tuning B8 S4 Exhaust for your car.

The sound you're describing is exactly what we had in mind when we developed our B8 S4 Exhaust. Sophisticated and refined while cruising and exhilarating at wide open throttle.

If you'd like to pm me your email address, I can put you in touch with local enthusiasts who have our exhaust. They'll be able to give you more feedback on the system.

Videos online are good to give you an idea of how the car will sound, but the real test comes when you hear it in person. I notice you're in Queens. We're located in Willow Grove, PA, just 20 minutes north of Philadelphia. Would you be able to come by? We'll treat you to lunch and give you a demo of our B8 S4 Exhaust on our in-house development vehicle. While you're here we can also give you a tour of our facility, showing you where all the development happened and where the systems are fabricated. Sound good?

There is currently about a 3.5 week lead time for our exhausts, which is caused by a huge increase in demand for our products. We're working with our Fabrication Department to do what we can to speed up production.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

BaLLZDeePNYC, can you please pm me information on the person you are talking about? I deal with all customer service issues here and I haven't had anyone contact me about fitment issues with our B8 S4 Exhausts. We have clients around the world installing these systems with no fitment issues whatsoever. I’m eager to help your friend work through their issues so they can fully enjoy their exhaust.

I've had the AWE exhaust with stock downpipes on my car for about 8 mos with no fitment or other issues. I'm perfectly happy with the sound and I think it is exactly what you are looking for. I do have a 6MT and if you go resonated(recommend for DSG) it should be a similar sound. I took it to the track for the first time this last weekend and the first comment out of any one was "I love the sound of your car".

This is my car right after install. It's gotten throatier since then.

I've heard the AWE in person and it sounds great. I have only heard sound clips of the Milltek and it seems to be a little deeper in sound. More bass. BUT, if there is a $700 difference, I know I would go with the AWE. I don't think you will be unhappy either. The APR exhaust sounds much to raspy for my taste. Since you live in Queens, perhaps a road trip down to AWE in Willow Grove might be in order. Shouldn't take more than 90 mins.

I think I'll go with the AWE since the cost savings is pretty good. Tahoskier's sound is pretty close to what I am looking for.

Sounds good. I will look forward to hearing it in comparison to the Milltek

Here's some more video and my take on the AWE exhaust.

I think it sounds great. I'd also highly recommend the AWE intake.

I ordered the AWE exhaust with downpipes yesterday. Hopefully I'll get it within a month right before I go to another HPDE event. It would be awesome to drive a brand-new exhaust flat out on a race track right after I get it installed.
