AC problem....

AC problem....
It's hot out here today, mid 80's and vary humid so I went out and started my car up to cool down the inside, later I went out to jump in the car and is was blowing oven hot air, I also noticed the AC had switched over to Econ, I hit Auto again but it contiued to blow hot air, I checked all my temp gauges and they were reading normal, but my outside temp gauge was reading like 119 degrees. So I decided to drive the car, and about a mile down the road it started to cool down just fine, out of curiousity I parked the car agiain and left if running to see if it would happen again and it did, the AC popped over to Econ and the outside temperature gauge was spiking up 100 plus again and the hot air started kicking out also.
As a side note, every once in awhile I get lazy and run my car through a touchless car wash and usually the exterior temp gauge spikes up, I just assumed hot water was getting on the temp censor and making it go up and it never effected the AC system.
I STA and noted someone mentioned that when the engine gets to hot the ECU automatically switches the AC over to Econ to help cool the car down, so I'm wondering if this isn't somehow related even though all my temp gauges read normal with the exception of the outside temp gauge.
Any ideas or thoughts here???

it might be,
I called my mechanic, he had acouple ideas.
1)Fan Motor dead
2)Bad switch(not turning fan on)
3)He mentioned a third but I a can't remember it right now.
I'll be taking a closer look at it tonight, I'll report back.
