Arghhhh! Oil temp gauge repair number three fails. Ok, it really doesn't mattter that much, but
I had a pretty good 16K service. Got almost everything done. New csuise control switch stalk that seems to fix my intermittent cruise control....fresh 0w-30 mobil one, patch in tire that took the nail...new wiper blades....and the oil temp gauge sender.
The gauge is better....but still does not read correctly. Was watching it on the way into work, seemed OK, but as I turned into the office it made a jump from 210 to 250 in about 10 seconds (outside temp = 43, no jumping on gas pedal). Sit at idle...no change, shut off engine, restart, gauge goes to 200, waits 10 seconds, goes to 225.
Cluster replaced (twice, first one was non-operating). Sender replaced. Always shows same behavior. Any suggestions? Is there a reference voltage?

And, if I shut off the car and IMMEDIATELY turn the ignition back on, the value seems correct (almost always around 200 when the engine is warm). Ten seconds later, it moves again...sometimes down, but usually up. So, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it does read incorrectly (i.e. with engine off and gauge on either the first reading is bad or the movement after 10 seconds must be bad).
Is there a thermocouple that I could screw into the sender to make sure that the temperature is what I think it is? Where is that puppy located anyway?
