Bad Water Pump

I've hear a lot about bad water pumps for the 2.7t motor from previous threads. I didn't read any discussion on which pumps are prematurely failing. My car has developed the infamous "marbles in a can sound" after replacing the water pump only 10k miles ago last year. The pump is the aftermarke Graf pump with a metal impeller. Which pump brand should I buy? The OEM Geba pump has a bad wrap because it has a plastic impeller. I really don't want to try another Graf pump. Anyone used an Airtex pump before? Which should I buy?

A coupla local indy Audi shops have told me that there was a "run" of bad

replacement water pumps within tha past year where they saw an abnormal early failure of replacement water pumps. They also tell me that they think the current water pumps are now OK.

My original pump was replaced during a timing-belt job at 88+K (it was performing quietly), but I recently replaced it as it was failing (same noises you are experiencing) after about 45K of use. The new one is a Graf, but I don't remember what the first replacement was. My son did the work both times and he would not put cheap/crap parts on my car.

Sorry...no personal experience with Airtex
