CEL, and car is running like ish

Started her up this morning and she feels like a V8. The whole car is shuddering. I turned the car off and started her up again and I got a CEL. I drove the car down the block and it shudders horribly when in low RPM in gear.
There seems to be a bit of oil in the exhaust but no thick white smoke. Also after the car ran for a few minutes I turned her off and noticed small amounts of smoke from the passenger side in the engine.
There is no oil leaking down to the ground.....but that doesn't mean I'm not leaking......
any knowledge on what could be wrong

It is very difficult to tell just by your post, try to see if you can find a VAG-COM and see what codes comes up.

One thing you can try tho, unplug the MAF and see if the car idles better.

do you know where to find a picture to figure out where the MAF is?
the search is acting all retarded for me today

The Maf is right after the airbox where the black plastic accordian hose is. Boy you have a thing or two to learn about cars if you cant find the MAF

Could be a major vacuum leak and the associated misfires. Pull codes and pressure test first.

Its hard to tell without the codes

Pull the codes and post them here so we can have a better idea what the potential problems are, you dont necessarily need a vag-com to get the codes, even a generic obdII scanner will work, or stop buy autozone and they'll scan it for you

thanks my friend has one and ill be scanning tomorrow
its odd because the car did this on sat. night, but i turned the car off and back on and the problem stopped...the car ran great untill i got home two hours later
