Default stranded, drive train won't engage

Was pulling away from a stop sign very lightly and out of nowhere there was a bang from the front of the car, and the car stopped accelerating.

I went to pull over and noticed there was nothing from the drivetrain. Loud rotational-clunking noise from the front as the car coasted to a stop.

Car shifts in and out of gear fine in every gear, doesn't stall when the clutch is let out in gear even though the car isn't moving, and the speedometer works, but the wheels won't turn. So the clutch must be engaging and the drive-shaft must be spinning right (speedometer)?

Broken pinion shaft or ring gear?

Waiting for my father to get here with an AAA card. Any thoughts?

Has to be broken cv, axle, or output from trans to front axle.

My guess is a broken axle. The B5 and other Audi quattro systems will not drive if one axle is missing or broken. I think my old 5000 Turbo quattro will drive
if one axle were broken or missing--but I never tried it that way. Some Jeeps will--I drove an FWD Wrangler once with a broken rear prop shaft.

If your speedo works with the clutch engaged, you'll want to check your front axles. Doubt you broke one, maybe you lost the axle bolts?
