Default Need some help with the car starting to overheating. More inside...

Alright guys, car STARTS to overheat SOMETIMES.

It has never passed the 1st tick mark on the right side of the center in the water temp gauge.

I can't duplicate it, it can be in hot weather with the AC on or off in traffic and the car will NOT start to overheat. And there are times its 60 deg cruising on the freeway and it will starts to overheat.

It seems to be happening much more when I drive uphill on the freeway.

Would it be the water pump or the thermostat or something else?

Here is a picture of what I see.

Have you check for codes yet ? are you getting a CEL ? how is your coolant situation, do you have any coolant leak ? also, what about the fans, are they working ? If there are no leaks and the fans are working properly, it can be either be a faulty thermostat or a faulty engine coolant temperture sensor.

No CEL or codes. The fans are all working w/ the AC on and off. There is no leak and the coolant level is fine.

I am going to replace the temp sensor and see what is what.

TIA

No.. I mean clean the crud outta your radiator fins by spraying it at the car wash. This will by defualt clean the condenser

Next would be to check your coolant and make sure its not more than 60/40 ('coolant' actually cools worse than water). While there make sure it is actually 'clean' with no oily residue (blown head gasket). Then then make sure the thermostat opens at the correct temp (sometimes can be done in car with a thermometer), then check the temp sensor.

This is why I say this... in traffic, hot or not, you are creating very little actual heat due to making very little HP. If your fans are up to snuff, they can handle it quite easy. On the highway, you are creating about 10-15x more HP while cruising. You have plenty of air, yet you overheat. The only things that can do this are plugged/blocked radiator, too much coolant to water, thermostat not fully open, bad water pump, etc. The sensor has nothing to do with it since its actually reporting the temps. If the fan temp sensor was out, you'd over heat in traffic, not on the highway.

Default possible thermostat just worked on at 2000 tip that was ...

doing the same thing. just getting past the half way mark and sometimes close to the first mark after the middle. Thermostat was not fully opening.
