Questions about engine at idle.. (longish)
Does anyone's engine take seemingly forever (about a minute) to reach a steady idle rpm? Mine (upon cold startup)seems to start up around 1100rpms, then gradually drop to around 800 rpms over the course of a 45 seconds to a minute. note: I live in Southern New England right now, if the weather conditions may have any effect. Also, I used to have a rough bobble every 9 seconds or so at idle with the rest being fairly smooth. Now (at 7.5K miles) my idle is slightly rougher all the time, but no huge bobble every 9 seconds, maybe a couple of smaller bobbles, every 4 seconds or so. any thoughts?

Most cars I have ever owned have a warm-up period where the engine overrevs at idle, immediately after cold start-up, finally settling into a sub-1000 RPM, usually around 750. That sounds completely normal. As for the rough idle, I have not experienced this with my Audi. You should have it checked out for sure, dependent upon how severe your burble is. If it's just a minor hesitation, I have occasionally felt this when the engine is cold. Good luck.

I had that burble in the approx same time frame as you.... it was there
when I got the car (new) and stayed till 10K or so, but it seems much smoother now.
But a V-6 will proably never be as smooth as a boxer or some other engine layouts that have a better natural blance.
I wouldn't worry about it. And I bet it goes away.

hmmm..thats what i thought about the cold start up, but it just seems to take longer than most cars, and isn't the same car(very loud, many noises) for the first 10 minutes afterwards(even under ver very very slow driving) unless you let it come to the steady idle first. the rough idle problem seems to occur not only at warm up, but whenever in idle and in the Parking Gear...in other words, couldn't feel it in D or Tip mode at a light.
