Scratches/gouges in the soft black plastic on the door by the window buttons...

It's the soft black plastic, in a 2001 S4 on the driver and passenger doors. It's so soft that apparently I took a small gouge out of it with my fingernails when pulling the door shut at some point. Is there any good way to repair scratches/gouges in this stuff?

<tracking> I haven't heard of anything but refinishing them...

I put an aluminum plate on top of my shift plate for the same reason-- that finish feels good, but wears awfully.

I plan on replacing the parts eventually. Hope I don't destroy my door.
