Default Adaptive Braking Problem

Or whatever it's called... Finally got my car. What a treat. No dealer prep on the paint, and it looks f lawless. Estoril is so much nicer in person. Almost black inside or when sun going down.

Throttle lag seems manageable.

B&O is sweet!

One major concern. A car in front of me was turning right and I was going straight. I guess I was close to the back of his car, and S6 slammed on the brakes. I didn't know what was happening until I saw the graphic in the dash, and almost got rear ended. I need to figure out how to control that so it doesn't happen again.

Lots of stuff to discover.

BTW, those two spots on the grille filler panels are parking sensors, not anchor spots. They're not lenses, so appear to be okay if covered. We'll see.

Yeah, its pretty interesting when the "pre-sense" mode kicks in the first time. I've had it intervene a couple of times when the car in front slowed down significantly and I was still speeding up - both times just a split second before I was going to hit the brakes anyway. I haven't had anything where it was kicking in when it shouldn't be.

Frankly, its absolutely amazing technology bordering on voodoo magic. It happened once with my buddy in the car and he's like "what the f? - your car is a witch!"

Doesn't sound like fun when the car stops like that. But that is one of its safety features. Check your MMI for Audi Breaking Guard. There you should be able to turn it off.

Congrats on finally picking up your new toy Jas.

Sounds like I am going to have the same learning experience with this bit of safety tech as well. This last week of waiting can't pass fast enough.

If you tap brakes and/or turn the wheel as an avoidance maneuver, the car should not intervene. I only had the car warn me twice so far, but it never applied the brakes. For street driving, perhaps the car is correct and we should adjust our driving habits (did I just say that?)

This is how the system is supposed to function it senses the car in front and if you are closing too quickly and not paying attention to the dash warning, and audible warning it jolts to brakes as an atttention grabber.

I was paying attention though, and not at risk of hitting him. But the sensors obviously can't draw a sharp line to only what is right in front of me.

I have learned since though, that just a slight touch of the brakes will shunt off the car's desire to slam them on.

Also discovering lane assist. Pretty cool how the car keeps you in your lane when your attention may have shifted briefly.

There's like 7 sensors in front of the car. If only my radar detector was as fast as the car. It's a speeding ticket waiting to happen. Hopefully the local cops won't soon realize it's me driving it.

You sure that lightly touching the brakes will prevent automatic application. When I was on the race track with the S6, my memory is that the automatic braking came on when a car was braking in front of me, even though I was lightly braking (and about to heavy brake).

Yes, the active lane assistant is a nice feature.

Not entirely. Maybe I wasn't closing fast enough. But I've been trying to figure out when it activates (when there isn't a pickup behind me about to rear end me).

You were on the track with ESP still turned on? Whenever I disable ESP, I'm told that Brake Guard is disabled as well.
