2016 S7 Engine Air Filter
Hi All. New to the forum. I recently ordered a 2016 S7. Does anyone have experience with engine air filters for this engine? What brand do you recommend and how easy is it to DIY install?
Thanks in advance.

The K&N Filter is as good as any.
Fitment is fairly straight forward, and obvious once you see where it needs to go.

Depends on what you want out of a filter.
K&N is washable. Every 40,000 miles or so, you remove the filter, wash the media and reoil. Initial cost of K&N's is usually around $50. IDK how much a OEM filter is. I have one in my Pontiac DD for my convenience.
K&N is advertised to allow more air to pass through for more power. If your engine is not calling for a increase in air volume, it won't make any difference in power. It has been said that aftermarket filters allow more turbo sound.
There is more flow because it doesn't filter as well as a paper filter. It allows larger particles to get through the filter. It doesn't necessarily mean that the engine is going to have excessive wear. It might burn more oil after a hundred thousand miles but most people move on to another car before then.
If you want more turbo sound or spend a lot of time at the track, get a free flowing aftermarket filter.

upon doing a bit more research, the 4.0T S7 uses the same air filter as the A7. The air filter i threw on my 2015 A7 is CAR FILTERS FB693/08 | BMC AIR FILTERS I'm ordering the same for my 2016 S7. These supposedly clean better than OEM, as they guarantee containment of impurities that are 7 microns or larger. OEM is 10 microns. The power and full efficiency gains also seem to make this worth while. I'm very happy w/ it on my A7. My brother has an M3 and is very happy w/ the BMC filter there. As far as cleaning, you can do that, but it's so much easier to just buy a new one and throw the old away.
