No ski sock?

No ski sock?
Just took delivery of my new 2014 S7 (ordered in July) and while I was poking around at home, I found a few surprises:
a) I discovered there is no ski sock on the pass-through to the rear luggage compartment - just a pass-through door that opens. I guess this is because there is no rear center seat belt to secure the ski sock in use. Do A7's, which have the three-across rear bench, have a ski sock? The ski sock, which I used a lot in my 2002 S6 Avant, is discussed in the A7/S7 owners manual, so somebody must get it.
b) Also, I see there is a small empty covered compartment in the inside back of the rear lid. Looks like perhaps you could store some road flares in it. No mention of it in the owner's manual. Anybody know what it's for?
c) Finally, I looked under the spare tire to see how the battery is mounted (yes, its in the back) and saw that there is also a metal enclosed lump the size of a large shoebox to the rear of the battery with a complex looking solenoid unit attached to it. Anyone know what this does?

The very early C7's came with a ski bag. New owners also received headphones. If you want either one of them, try Ebay.
I believe that that space can hold a Audi First Aid kit. Those are also on eBay.
I'm not a expert but it sounds like it could be the the sub woofer enclosure.

Thanks to factory cost cutting, ski bags, first aid kits and warning triangles that used to be included with purchase of an Audi, are no longer included. If available, they are now options that cost extra.
