Modified my transmission's oil pan tonight, with a big rock...
Driving home tonight, I drover over a big piece of rock that had found it's way into the road. It was sitting there, dead smack in the middle of my lane, waiting for me.. I couldn't swerve, as there was traffic oncoming. Couldn't slam the brakes, as there was a car behind me, and honestly, I saw it way too late to have time to stop anyway likely.
So I drove over it. it was big enough that it felt like it picked up the car a bit. There was a little strange noise after, and suddenly, the trans started slipping. Yay.
Luckily I was only a few miles from home, and had my kids in the car, so I decided to just go home, carefully.
The car made it no problem, with no strange noises, no "limp home mode"..
As I parked, the transmission fluid which had been sprayed all over the hot exhaust caused a smoke screen worthy of 007 himself, and I grabbed a flashlight to inspect the damage.
As expected, there was a decent sized stream of fluid draining from the transmission. I pulled the car into the garage, and put it up on jacks..
There's a pretty good indentation and gash in the pan now, hopefully it didn't cause any damage internally..
Now on to find an oil pan on a holiday weekend..

Lucky...last time I did this on my 1990 volvo 740T it took out the engine oil pan, engine oil pump, engine crossmember, transmission pan, and transmission crossmember. $2500 worth of damage...dang insurance company calls it 'collision' and it was subject to deductible and they jacked my insurance rate up when it was renewed. When I got the notice of renewal and increased premium I went to a different company and saved about 400/6 mos. Pays to shop around.

It could be worse. My first Datsun 510 hit a bolder on the side of the road, after spinning on wet asphalt because of a wrong-way driver coming at me. The impact broke off the oil pump and knocked the car on its side, breaking the windshield when the pillar buckled. Me and my two friends slid to a stop in the dirt, feet from a steep mountain drop-off. We were OK but way up the mountain with a broken car, and before cell phones.
