Default SQ5 Oil Analysis

I finally got the results from Blackstone Labs. There was nothing abnormal after driving 9890 miles on the factory 0W20 oil. I'm currently waiting on a second analysis for when the dealer potentially put 5W40 in my SQ5. The second one will be interesting because it was ~2k miles later. Hopefully, that one doesn't show any odd wear.

Thanks for sharing this! I don't plan on doing an early oil change on mine.

Would like to see some Moly, but the Boron is good to see! Surprised there is no Ti, I thought this was part of the Castrol Edge oil add pack?

+2 for sharing. That's fascinating. I've never done that (and I've simply erred on the side of changing it). Didn't know they'd be so thorough in itemizing components. Wrote a friend (who is a superb mechanic of classic cars) and he wrote me back this:

"Peace of mind – and a good bit of evidence of caring about the car. On a brand new vehicle I would think an oil analysis would be good “insurance.” I assume the Audi has roller cam followers, as do most modern engines. Flat cam followers are a thing of the past with today’s oils, and the cam interface (with the flat followers) used to be the source of a lot of the “break in” detritus in the oil in the first few thousand miles. And, of course, tolerances are a lot closer in today’s engines, partly because with CNC machining it is possible to do cost effectively, but also needed for emissions reduction. I would think an early oil change for a brand new engine would be a cheap safety measure if the plan is to keep the car for a long time."

What will be interesting is how the wear trends over time. I drive 80% highway, usually on the 'spirited' side. I'll add my second one to the main post once I get the results back.

Found this PDS: https://msdspds.castrol.com/bpglis/FusionPDS.nsf/Files/B582731228BE59FF802580640066270C/$File/BPXE-AD8F38.pdf It touts the Titanium additive. Same as all gold bottle Castrol Edge, and it showed up in the UOA I did on my 370Z a few years ago. Android, you don't think it is odd it is not there?

I don't know what should be in the oil after X miles, although that would make sense. I can call Blackstone and or Castrol to see what their opinion is .This was the factory oil, so it would fall back on them .
