It is a great reliable vehicle but do some reading. It will be bought back soon. https://www.ftc.gov/enforcement/case...up-america-inc

So I am in Ontario, Canada and have tried to do some research, but not to clear on what the full details are. If purchasing the vehicle for $25,000, will the buy back be larger than that amount? Are you forced to give back vehicle, or is there going to be a software fix?
Thanks for the insight.

If you want a fixable one that wont nerf the economy and performance then you want a Gen2 TDI, which is 2013+.. 2012 will be bought back, a fix is a mebe.. with no adblue it is going to be a drastic change and buyback prices are great; dont know Canadian numbers though.
I love my Q7 TDI, great vehicle..

Excuse my ignorance on this, but would like to know more... again, I purchase now for 25k and drive 2 years until I actually get bought out (2019). Is the likelihood that I get more, equal, or less than what I paid for today? Is the price determined on the price of (2015) value?

To be sure one would have to register the vehicle at the claims portal and get a buy back quote. I don't know of any technicality that would prevent one from buying one now and registering it for a future buyback though. You are allowed 1250 miles per month since Sept 2015 without reducing the buy back value. I have been tempted to go ahead and buy a Gen2 now and get paid the compensation on it and receive the fix before my Gen1 has to go back. It's complicated for sure. Do some careful reading.

Has anyone else thought to doing this, or now thinking of doing it? Seems like a good idea to purchase one now for decent price and then have them buy it back and then purchase another one with that money, or am I missing something completely? Anyone from Canada know where to get the buy back prices, or phone number for general inquiries?

I traded in a 2013 Gen1 2.0L TDI and got me a 2014 Gen2 3.0L TDI; I call it my #dieselgate upgrade.. Our family has grown alot since I bought that first TDI and it was a great time to go from a lil hot hatch, to a big awd SUV, without giving up the diesel.
