Nice article. They mention the new green oil, will you be able to buy this off the shelf in local stores someday, or just on the Internet! This oil reminds me of
German Castrol that was sold about 8 years ago and it was green in color! Is is the same oil?

Not to hi-jack this thread but I would like to share a much more detailed article about the new 3.0L TFSI Turbo Engine. Lots of helpful info that discusses the technological advancements of the EA839 engine:

Is the green oil supposed to be better for our engines?

From what I've read on other sites about the green oil it is supposed to be better, in fact it is the only oil you can use according to Audi. Plus, it's supposedly hard to find, some say it's only available from the dealer in the $8.00 per quart range. Usually there are numerous approved oils one can use in a car, as long as the meet the VW-Audi requirements, maybe someone more can chime in this with more info!

Is this green engine oil synthetic?
Are they trying to mandate only Audi oil changes?
As above I thought there was a list of approved synthetic oils.

Guys, I am always amused when I encounter folks making things complicated when the owners manual simply says that any Audi/VW approved oil is the best oil you can use for your Audi/VW vehicle. People forget to K.I.S.S. or Keep It Short and Simple. If the owners manual states nothing about 'Green' oil stuff then it is not needed. There are several Audi/VW standards but the most common is 502.00 for gasoline engines. To find out which Audi/VW oil standard is best for your vehicle. Here is a helpful article that explains what the Audi/VW Specification is all about:
VW 507.00, VW 504.00, etc: Volkswagen Motor Oil Specifications Explained - oilspecifications.org

Here is a list of Audi/VW 502 and 505 approved oils:

The F-Type takes a specific oil that was only available from the dealer...might still be now as well

Default VW 508.00

The new oil standard for B-cycle engines is VW 508.00, which is not in Plat's list. It is covered in the latest Audi USA Oil & Fuel brochure:

Fuel
