Default Did you do a proper break-in?

Manual said, first 600 mile no more than 2/3 RPM. then ease up toward 1000 miles. Do you follow the procedure or did you say screw it, I want to have fun now?

So comfort mode without flooring the gas for 2 tank full? then slowly run it up?

Got my 2018 S5 Monday. I used Launch Control once at 140 miles for 4 seconds during the test drive. I will now follow the the breaking in rules until 1000 miles.

I'm old school, so I followed the instructions in the manual as best I could for the first 1,000 miles. I plan to keep the car a long time, and it was a small price to pay for me.

I’m wondering why someone would NOT want to follow the engine break-in instructions from the manufacturer? Even those with a rudimentary understanding of mechanics can understand why this is nessessary and it’s spelled out in the manual for those who need more info.

600 miles is nothing in time or distance - at most 3-4 weeks.

I followed the manual. Expect the breakin period is there for a reason. Why take a chance. Gave me a good reason to put miles on every day.

There have been 2 school of thought on breakin way back when. One is the take it slow for the first 1000 and one is you drive it the way you plan on driving it regularly from day one, I've always been the slow breakin group, just wander if more people is leaning one way or the other nowadays.

I'm part of the "drive it like you stole it" group. The tolerances and coatings in todays engines make the break in different from days past. I know what the manufacturer states but lets be honest they are going to want you to drive it slow for the life of the vehicle. I'm not going to say I beat the car but I will drive it from day 1 the same way I will drive it as long as I own it. I have done this with every vehicle I have owned and so far so good. For me if it's going to break I want it to break early.

I'm not knocking anyone that want's to go by the book but for me I'll drive it normal from day 1.

Hardest part for me will be varying my speed on the 2 hour drive home from the dealer the day I pick it up...

At least I won't have to face that hardship ;-P. Dealer is less than 4 miles from home and my daily commute is only 30 miles of combined city/highway round trip so that's good at varying speed.

My commute is 4 miles one way so its going to be a looong break in period.

Sounds like a roadtrip is in order.
