K&N damage
My wife's A4 just had to have the throttle body cleaned out, and the oxygen sensors replaced on both sides, because of a K&N filter oil muck up. K&N filters were probably a good idea when engines would just suck that stuff up, and burn it inside the cylinders, but not with today's modern intakes. Not a good idea.
End result: Just under $1100 at my local indy shop. Probably would have been $1500 at the dealer.

I've also heard in the past that excessive oil from a K&N filter can also damage the MAF sensor (not cheap).
Make sure you only add a minimum amount of K&N filter oil after cleaning the filter.

Yeah, oil migration comes with the territory with that design.

I called my mechanic because I remember seeing someone else mention this in another thread. I asked him if that might be the problem, and he said it was possible. He confirmed it when we picked the car up yesterday. I told him to replace that filter with the stock filter. My wife told me that throttle response was greatly improved after the work was done.
The symptom was a CEL. Maybe 40k on the filter.
Another +1 for Village Import in Clifton.
