Default Have a small oil leak coming from the Oil Filter housing

thought it would be a minor fix. Was told it takes 25.5 hours to fix. WOW. Anyone have any other ideas on a cheaper fix?

Been done by a few of us recently. Covered here...

Basic hand tools and time. 1 day to take it about. 1 day to clean your intakes and put it back together.

Also talked about here and the parts list.

I don’t know for sure but I think it’s a pretty consistent job irrespective of the engine. I did it on my S8 and would say replacing the gaskets on the oil filter housing is an easy to complete 8 hr job not more. Whilst your having it done get it the inlets carbon cleaned which is another few hours work. I don’t know for sure, but I cant imagine a V8 4.2 is any more difficult than the V10, I would be shocked if it took a professional 25hrs to complete.

well if it is a v8 4.2 BFM engine it's officially an engine out repair.

Then it's probably a 4.2 bfm engine.
first check if the oil filter cap doesn't leak or the valve cap gasket isn't leaking somewhere in that area.
If that's not the case probilbly a small 8 shaped gasket behind the oilcooler leaks.
its possible to replace it without removing the engine ,but is a hell of a job.
I've done it but it cost me 2 days (working on the ground).
It sure isn't a job to be done by someone without wrenching skills.
P's it's the same job a the replacement of the dredded oilcooler coolant pipe.

While in there, replace the plastic pipe with the aluminum one from Gruvenparts. Note how mine wasn't leaking but since I was in the area, we pulled out the oil cooler and replaced it. The plastic one sheared off between the O-Ring & pipe tip in the oil cooler. The pipe was weaker than an egg shell. Yes, my son & I replaced the figure-8 O ring and the other one as well.
