Default Fuel filler door...

I noticed when I open my fuel filler door it doesn't "pop open" very much, in fact I have to pry it open with my fingertips... I would think it should pop out a bit more, or is this a normal Audi A6 thing?

Hey there thanks for quick reply! So here is how it looks unopened...

Here's how it looks after pressing the button in the drivers door...

Spot the difference?!

Here's the internal mechanics.... all the bits look in place as far as I can tell...

Is it that little brass piece which is supposed to spring the door open? I would think it should spring open at least a half an inch or something right?!

Your filler door opens approximately the same as the filler door on my 2006 A6 Avant. With the door opened in this position, I have no problem opening it to access the gas cap. If you want it to open a little more, try cleaning/lubricating the hinges and the actuator. Then also bend the brass "spring" outward a little, with the locking ping retracted, to provide more outward movement.

I agree with A6 Gary. Same thing was going on with my car when I got it 5 months ago. I sprayed some WD40 on the little black "pin" and worked it in and out a few dozen times and I pulled on the gold piece to stretch it. Works like a charm now. Only problem I have now is the cord that holds my gas cap snapped so now I have to actually hold onto my gas cap when I get gas or place it in that little holder on the gas door.

Well there you have it! A6Gary, KevinGary, akingzkid - thank you!

WD40 on that little black actuator pin and it's all fixed up - just as you guys said.

Once more here is the 'before' WD40 "opened' state...

...and here's how it looks now post WD40 treatment...

Back to perfect working order - thanks gents!

You don't need to hold onto the gas cap, even w/o the plastic cord. There is a slot on the inner surface of the fuel door that you insert one of the lips on the cap to store it while you fuel. This feature is one of the reasons I never allow a gas station attendant (e.g., Oregon) to remove or re-install the gas cap because I do not want any scratches or dings on my car from their lack of attention to detail or knowledge.

I am the same way. I look for self-service stations.
