I live in Coastal NC with heat and humidity in excess. My 2017 Q7 air conditioning performs terribly. It takes 15 minutes of stop and go city traffic to marginally cool the interior. Even after it reaches comfortable levels the fan noise never drops in auto mode making the interior extremely noisy. I can go to manual fan speed but at comfortable noise levels it gets too warm. My Q7 is Graphite Grey with Nougat interior.

So, is it just mine or is this a problem for all?

IMO I feel A/C in the Q7 could be better, BTW my front windows are tinted.

I know that the Q7 is big with a lot of glass and the big sunroof (even with shade closed) doesn't help. But it does take a while for it to cool off when its very humid out.. I understand that you're lucky if you can knock 20 degrees off the outside temp, but even then it never really feels as cool as my previous SUV's.. In very hot weather I also tend to use the manual function more than auto to keep the interior comfortable..

In regards to the fan being loud, I don't feel the noise level is any worse than in other vehicles I've been in..

Cooling is not a factor for me as the Q is parked indoors mostly, but yeah that fan on Auto never slows down. Its always blasting air regardless of reaching cabin temp. I hate playing with manual AC now, just wish there was way to lower the fan speed on Auto

My perception is my Q (no tint) cools about twice as fast as my X5; 90+ cools down to comfortable within about a mile. Seat cooler works much better. Haven't been through a winter yet so can't speak to heating, but my perception is that the Q7 has much better climate control than BMW.

The A/C in my Q7 is the worst I've even owned for A/C cooling. Now, with that being said it's my first vehicle with an all glass roof so I'm sure that has some impact on the cooling. I can't say it's due to size because my Lexus GX460, 2009 Tahoe, 2007 Suburban and others were much better than the Q7 with cooling. It's been so bad that on the 100 degree plus days I've been driving my Sierra because the cab is so small it will freeze you out within minutes.

A/C is not the greatest, but I think it's adequate. I think the key is to air out the cabin first. Regardless of how hot it's outside, inside the cabin the air will always be hotter. I would open all the windows and even the hatch in the back for about 30 sec, while the engine warms up, just to get the air moving first. Also, I have noticed that it helps if you switch to recirc after about 2 min (you need a bit of time for the A/C to purge the air ducts first). One more thing that plays a role, the interior and exterior colors. Mine is white exterior and pistachio interior, that makes for a lower starting temperature. Just my $.02, your experience may vary.

I too think the A/C is inadequate. Have had the Q for about 10 days... temps are 90s and humid... Around town it's bad... Stop and go traffic it takes a long time to get cool... Jump on the interstate and it seems to do much better... Strange thing is, I had a 18' Q5 loaner waiting on my Q7 to be delivered. Same weather, the Q5 would be freezing cold in just a few minutes, even in stop and go (also noticed that it was using R1234yf vs 134a in the Q7 not sure if that affects performance)... Wondering if it needs to be looked at... If the refrigerant charge is off, that can affect the performance. Or, is it just a bad design/undersized...

I'm happy that the A/C in my 2018 is much better than my 2014, which was mediocre. I also drive for a minute or so windows down to blow hot air out.
