Charging location setting
- Set up your charger location setting, where you specify a location, charge time window, and desired target SoC percentage. Note that the target SoC percentage is overridden any time you adjust it from the main "charging" interface in the UI.
- Create a new charging timer. You need to set this to the time you are likely to leave in the morning (and thus want to ensure that the car is charged up by this time).
- Get into the car (yes, you have to actually get into the car). Close the door (this won't work if the door is open). Power on the car (yep). Wait for a bit so the MMI boots up.
- Turn off the car. On the MMI you'll see a "goodbye" splash screen with some options. You should see the charging timer you just set up, visible with a big clock button to the left. Tap the clock and you get a red line over it, indicating that the charging timer is now active.
- Exit the vehicle
- Plug your charger in. It will initialize but then stop and give you a flashing (instead of pulsing) green light, indicating that it's waiting for the charge timer.
- The car will now strive to have your car charged by the time the departure timer is set, and since you have a charge location defined, it will prefer to charge during that window.
- Return from driving around for the day, and pull into the garage.
- Power off the car but do not exit yet.
- Tap the clock button on the MMI to activate the charge timer
- Exit the vehicle
- Plug in the charger
- Plug the charger in. Car starts charging immediately (pulsing green light)
- Open the myAudi app, go to "charging"
- Tap "switch to timer mode"
- Assuming the app is able to communicate with the car (which I only have about 20% success with), the car will stop charging and you get the blinking green light indicating it's waiting for the charge timer.

One comment regarding the first item "2", be aware that, if you use the MyAudi app to set up a timer, when you turn the slider button to "on" you are NOT activating the timer. You are only "enabling" it so that it will show up on your Shutdown splash screen, making it available for you to "activate". It's on the screen in the car where you have to activate it by pressing the icon. If you have a bunch of timers set up, using the "enabling" sliders to turn some on and off helps reduce the clutter on the Shutdown screen.
Bringing Audi to Life for Audi Fans
I have preferred home electric rates from 11pm-7am for owning an EV, so set my preferred charging time from 11pm-7am at my home location. I set my timer to be ready by 6:55 am., which, needs to be activated when I want to use it. There has been a couple of times I either forgot to activate the timer, or had the timer set, had to run out in the evening unexpected, return home, plug in (forgot to reactivate timer so the red line shows again), and then get a notification at 10:40pm that my e-tron has finished charging. Argh! What about my "preferred charging" not starting until 11pm? Why did it start charging at 8pm when a few more hours would have been 11pm, my "preferred charging period?" I don't think the "preferred charging time" does anything at all. It sure doesn't delay charging when you plug in. The timer is required for any delay in charging.
