Default SE: Oil pressure light

I started my S8 after 5-6 months and after 30 seconds of driving the oil pressure light start blinking.

Engine runs good
oil level is correct.
when car sits at idle no light come up.
Its only when i put the car in D and drive it for 30 seconds or so the light come up.
strange thing is that it has no fault codes when scanning with vcds.

anyone have had the same problem?

Pre facelift, I do not know how that indication is presented. On the later D2 it's a red warning and a beep. Not sure what you have.
Presentation is unusual, in cars where I had low oil pressure, most recently worn rod bearings in my 968, I got low oil pressure when the engine oil was fully hot and at idle which took at least 15 minutes.
On that same car the oil pressure combination sensor (idiot light / gauge) is known to fail but it fails high.

When it's warning, do the lifters get loud?

I f it was my car I'd replace the oil pressure sensor before getting too deep into the diagnostics.
Maybe search for this sensor getting replaced on all the various Audi engines from this era, probably the same part.

Otherwise I think you could make an adapter for the oil filter housing drain to connect a mechanical oil pressure gauge. I think it's an M14x1.5mm, there are adapters to a hose barb in that size.
You can use a cheap air pressure gauge for this and leave a column of air in the line to keep oil out of the gauge.

Have you checked your oil?
You did hmmm
Change it or like jfrahm said change the sensor they act weird when bad. Kinda like you described. I recall now..... It caused me to cancel a date😞
I also second his oil apart to manual gauge idea

I had the exact same problem with the oil light coming on after I put my '99 in gear, though there was plenty of oil and sufficient oil pressure. It turned out that there was moisture in the electronics plenum under the hood. Taking the top of the housing and putting a fan directed into the plenum fixed the problem until it rained heavily again. I finally figured out one of the threaded inserts had become loose in the housing causing the lid to not screw down tightly enough. I replaced the threaded insert and for good measure put a bead of silicone on the mating surfaces and haven't seen the problem since.

Problem solved.
it was the oil pressure switch.
