Default Is there a way to increase the output of the red LED lights?

The ones that provide the ambient lighting of the console? I think it's a great feature, but I would like it to be brighter.

Default Sure...but you have to know the maximum forward current rating of the LED

...there's a typical forward current say 15mA to 20mA and a max figure probably up around 40~50mA running the LED like that will shave some time off the life of the part, but if all you care about is brightness well then fine...do it.

Iled = (Vsupply - Vled) / R

Iled is your desired forward current...
Vsupply is the input voltage to the LED Resistor combo as measured from end to end. Vled is the nominal forward drop of the LED which will be about 1.2~1.5 volts depending on the process (semiconductor doping). This figure increases with higher and higher forward currents...thus increasing the dissipation and hence temp of the LED die.

The resistor value should be lowered to increase current (brighter) and raised to lower it (dimmer) if you couldn't intuit that from the R term being in the denominator ;-)

Regards,

James R.

Default James - good advice - You can also replace the LED with a brighter one too.

The ones in the car are probably around 1cd and you can easily get one that is 10 cd @20mA.
