Default Shall I go to a body shop recommended by insurance?

Hi!

My wife had a little fender bender with our baby, and we need to get it taken take of. We have the Progressive insurance, and the agent was kinda pushy and tried to make us go to a shop on their list citing ease of dealing with and lifetime guarantee, etc. Her pushy attitude made me kinda uncomfortable.

Is it safe to go to a body shop that is recommended by an insurance company? I am afraid such shop will be more concerned to meet insurance company's needs than mine.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Default If the repair cost turns out to be higher than the estimated cost then you are covered.

If you pick out your own body shop you might have to argue about any charges for hidden damage. I had my grill crunched one time. It wasn't obvious but the A/C compressor was damaged. The shop had an agreement with the insurance company so I didn't have to get in the middle of it.

Default research the company's workmanship first....

main reason they tell you to pick a shop off their list is because any future conflicts they will help out. but if you chose a shop not contracted on their list and have conflicts, your basically on your own.. or you go and fight with the insurance company to get them to help. i learned this the hard way, but fought my way and got state farm to redo the poor workmanship on my car.

also, through my experiences... never take your car to a dealer owned shop... workmanship there is a joke.

Default I live....

I live in Fremont....., but I work in San Jose, so anywhere in and around San Jose is fine.

BTW, I don't usually go to a dealer ever since I bought the car. I go to M&M Audi House in Campbell for any kind of service. They do a good job for a reasonable price.

Default I feel I need to warn you.. Progressive hmm..

I had a long battle with progressive. Very dishonest company IMHO, they did everything they could to lie and cheat me [legally]. Gave me the run around, never returned calls. So long story short, I had to take them to court. To recoup my loss of value to my car. After they paid for my car repair bill. It was a long 7 months without my audi. In your case, don't let progressive push you into anything. Take your car where you feel comfortable. Personally I would take it to a place where progressive doesn't recommend. Really it's up to the body shop, in dealing with insurance companys. You'll be surprised how many body shops don't like progressive [or so I hear]. Don't forget use Audi OEM parts, progressive is good at trying not to use them. Oh, feel free to mention you are aware of progressive dealing with my case. My name Jaime Granara, Jonesboro, Ar. I'm sure they remember me just happened this july. I'm probably in the insurance adjuster training manual by now. You got to love the their slogan "We're not what you expect from an insurance company"
GOOD LUCK..
