Default The interior cover pulls straight off toward the front... (more)

...as you're inside facing the rear window, grab the cover on both sides and pull straight toward you. There are two little clips under the bottom edge that will release without a lot of force. You can also remove the bulb holder by undoing the two Philips screws you'll see, and disconnecting the wires underneath from inside the trunk. The red lens assembly is a little more problematic... it is screwed into the cargo shelf, and the screws are not accessible from underneath in the trunk, so you'd have to remove the whole shelf, I think. But getting the lens off isn't really necessary -- with just the cover off, you can fold up a cloth and wedge it between the lens and the glass enough to pull it side-to-side, kinda like dental floss. Hey, it worked for me!

Default It helps if you gently pry up the cover with a flat nose screwdriver before pulling on the cover.

Prying it up will release the tabs and then just pull back like Andy described.
