First drive of new A4 3.0 quattro
He said it is a marked improvement over current A4 to drive, particularly with the 3.0 engine which is more torquey than his 330 BMW. Handling is much tighter with less roll and understeer but still with a good ride. Brakes and steering feel better and wind noise on autobahn (an A4 bugbear) has improved. Interior is relatively similar to current which is excellant anyway.
Auto Express and Autocar reviews concur with this.
Otto is a BMW diehard so I take these as good omens. He also said that 'he is a very handsome car in the metal' and the two exhausts and 17 wheels look cool.
Can't wait for the 300bhp S4 and eventual RS4 that will doubtless come.
One very interesting fact gleaned from Auto Express. Audi hired the BMW chief engineer who worked on current 3 series chassis/brakes (including new M3) and he has done the job on the new A4. This would explain the reported improved handling, steering and brake feel dynamics.
I think this bodes well for "Audi's best handling new car ever." (quote)
