Ok, here's what it said....
The best way to do this is to get a vag tool, like vag com.
With it at idle, check data block 002, and get the value for field 4 (air mass).
If at idle it's more than 4.5 g/s, then it's one of two things, load on engine due to accessories, or voltage supply to the MAF or ECU is spiking.
Since your's is intermittent, it just may be due to the A/C cycling at idle on a hot day, or some other large engine load.
Otherwise, take it in to have the wiring checked out. May just be the MAF connector is shorting...

Just checked and it fluctuates between 4.2 and 4.4 with an occasional 4.5 - is it normal to fluctuate like that? I live in Minnesota and haven't used the air in a while, and the only extra accessory is a lighted shift ****.
