Yes and usually you can't!
Take for example NASA's turbos (failed twice, lemoned car), the impellers were damaged by a foreign object, everything seem normal, even boost levels, it was probably working harder due to the bent parts.
The only way to know it was by looking at the turbos, and you need the engine out to do that.
Many here have a 'siren' noise and others had the noise getting louder just before their turbos went south.

As I said before, some damaged turbos have produced correct amounts of power so it's hard to know if you would see it on a dyno given that every S4 puts out different numbers
regardless.
Use 0W30 synth, go easy on the turbos when cold and before shutdown, watch for the siren or drilling noise, otherwise, pray your set is still healthy.
