Default Turbo Failure?

I now notice a "turbo-whine" upon initial start up in the morngings. Is this the beginings of turbo failure?

If it matters, I have a stock '00 S4 with 60,000 miles.

Thanks!

What is the nature of your engine's sound?

Default not necessarily

when it keeps making that noise after it warms up well then you may expect the turbos to go.
that's why it's very important to warm the car up well before driving it hard.

Default Yes

Some mechanics told me that the S4 turbos usually go around 75k. Basically, there is not enough ventalation to them, so they just overheat. My old turbos ran fine, they just gave a soft whine, and eventually gave out. The new ones are silent.

Keep in mind, I just started to notice, what I call, the "spooling / whine" sound upon startup this past week.

Usually, I only hear this sound when I accelerate even at normal operating temps. But recently, I could hear them making a noise for a minute or two upon initial startup in the morning. Now that I think about it, the sound seems a bit more high pitched than normal.

I dont know. I may just be paranoid.

Thanks for all the input. I am under Audi Certified Warranty, so I guess I will at least take it in.

One more thing, it seems like my gas mileage is worse these days as well. Any thoughts?

Default No way they'll do anything for you.

No matter how cool the dealer is, your turbos sound fine. *Maybe* they're at the beginning of their death throes, but that could take over a year to come to a conclusion.

My dealer only agreed to replace mine when they were creating a loud howling, siren sound in the cabin.
