Fabric choices for seating
Anyone have experience with non-leather seats for A6? Was ready to order 2001 2.7T with leather and no sunroof, was told that leather only available with "Preferred" package which includes sunroof. Would like opinions about cloth or leatherette seats. Thanks for advice.<p>David Fathauer

Disagree, we had two luxury cars w/o leather...
Audi should be able to get you an A6 without leather. We ordered our 2.8 A4 without leather and also ordered a Porsche (911) with cloth (we specified the cloth and they were happy to do it, no questions asked).
Cloth does not get as hot in the summer, does not suffer from the discoloration problems of leather, and holds passengers better in turns during spirited driving. Given the choice of leather and wood or cloth and carbon fiber, I'd choose the latter every time (S6 carbon fiber trim is available, by the way...).
DaveF, you could always go aftermarket also... the Recaro SPG is offered as a replacement driver & passenger seat for the A6 and offers several very nice cloth choices (or you can provide your own...)

I saw cloth seats at the dealer...
Jim Ellis in Atlanta had an A6 with cloth seats in the showroom a couple of months ago. It wasn't my style, but I have to admit that the cloth seats looked very good. They definitely used high-quality material. A salesman told me that Audi sells a lot of cloth seats in Europe, even on the high-end sedans.

Cameron has a point. I think Europeans don't believe that leather is necessarily more upscale.
Fabric is typically more comfortable, is cooler in the summer and warmer int he winter. I think we are too concerned with the image of a car. I admit that I love the leather sport seats in my 4.2 with sport pkg. but I see the practicality of fabric.
